Josephina Aguilar

OAXACA, MEXICO

I actually met this skilled folk artist twice,

once in 2001 and again in 2004.

Josefina is one of the four Aguilar sisters from the village of Ocotlan in Oaxaca. They are world-famous for their painted ceramic figures.  They learned the art from their family as small children. Josefina was "discovered" by Nelson Rockefeller in his search for folk art for his collection and her work appears in important collections all over the world.
